Don't assume the product is safe just because a scrapbooking consultant sells an item or it is sold by a scrapbooking store. Ask if the product is archival safe.

Heat speeds chemical processes. Store photos and albums away from heat sources.

Light deteriorates photos. Store photos away from light.

Moisture promotes the growth of mould on photos. Photos need to be stored in a dry place.

Dirt obviously can damage photos. Photos need to be stored in protective sleeves.

Storage of photo albums – photo albums need to be stored standing upright. Stacking albums causes pressure on the photos at the bottom of the album.

Ball point pen – don’t use ballpoint pen on the back of photos as it causes indentations on the front of photos. There is a special photo marking pencil you can buy.

Improper handling – Dirty hands can transfer dirt and oils to photos. Always wash your hands before handling photos. Wash them often while working too.
